Zine Librarianship

Malana is the founder and curator of the Malana Krongelb Zine Collection at the John Hay Library at Brown University, alongside a sister collection at the Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender.

The collection has received nationwide acclaim alongside significant local popularity. The collection has been featured in multiple exhibits in Rhode Island and continues to uplift voices often excluded from libraries, archives, academia, and broader society. In 2021, it was named one of the core collections in the university's archival inclusion initiatives. The collection has been featured as a resource for LGBTQ+ History on the websites of the Providence Public Library, the Digital Transgender Archive, and more.

Malana has served as a zine consultant at libraries, archives, and bookstores, including developing the Rhode Island School of Design's zine collection. She has run multiple zine workshops for a variety of ages at conferences, camps, and of course, libraries.

Malana is also a zinester herself, including works like Error_Access_Denied: A Few Current Thoughts on the Internet and Black Futures, But It Doesn't Keep Me from Living, and ASL/DTF/ILY: Conversations on Sex and Sexuality on Omegle. And of course, she is happy to talk zines at any time!
